 Harry Potter7Lodge Logic 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet
Buy new: $16.97
Every kitchen needs at LEAST one cast iron skillet. Why not, they're cheap! The sheer weight of cast iron makes it hold heat evenly for beautiful, easy cooking. Lodge is the last "Made in the USA" cast iron manufacturer, and they've been around a long time.
Harry Potter7Anolon Advanced 8-Piece Knife Block Set
Used to be around $30... at that price, a truly wonderful set of knives at an unbelievable price. One of the best values in my kitchen. Treat them with respect, hone regularly and they will not let you down. I've even been washing them in *GASP* the dishwasher to no ill effect!
Harry Potter7Anolon Advanced 7-Inch Santoku with Hollow-Ground Blade
Buy new: $24.02
The only knife I've needed to add to my Anolon set (though currently I am considering adding a boning knife.) Santoku are a knife workhorse and it's worth having at least one big one.
Harry Potter7Oxo Good Grips Measuring Spoons, Stainless Steel
Buy new: $9.99
A really solid set of measuring spoons. The stainless steel lasts and lasts, and the measurement labels haven't been rubbed or washed off of mine yet (going on 10 years.) These are a workhorse of the kitchen, so definitely worth getting quality.
 Harry Potter7MIU Stainless-Steel 7-Piece Measuring Cup Set
Buy new: $18.99
Why 7 cups? If you wind up doing a lot of cooking you'll be grateful for more than just the 4 basic cups. This set of stainless steel beauties is dishwasher safe and will not rust. No OXO here, as their handles are weaklings. If you do not plan on doing much baking there is a MIU 5-piece set that's cheaper.
Harry Potter7Braun MR5550CA Multiquick Professional Hand Blender, White
Buy new: $68.29
I have the MR430HC, which seems to be a collector's item judging by the going price. This one costs more than I remember paying originally, but none of the other brands seem to compare. Perfect for many in-pot blending tasks and small chopping or pureeing jobs. Doesn't take up much room, cleans up easily and is cheaper/smaller than a big food processor.
Harry Potter7Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixers
Buy new: $254.99
Why buy new what you can get cheaper refurbished? My mom has a KitchenAid so of course I wanted one too. The Artisan mixers have a tilt-back beater, which is very handy.
 Harry Potter7Sunbeam 5891 2-Pound Programmable Breadmaker
NOTE: This used to cost around $35-$40. The only vendor still selling on Amazon jacked up the price. At its original $40 price, it makes it affordable to own a breadmaker, even if you don't use it every other day. Also saves on electricity by not running your oven, or having a bunch of bowls and pans to wash up!
Harry Potter7The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook by Beth Hensperger

To go with your bread machine! If you get the above breadmaker, don't bother with their included recipes. Get this book instead, seriously!
Harry Potter7Salter 5-Pound Microtronic Kitchen Scale, White
Buy new: $29.99
Many times, especially if baking, you will want to measure by weight rather than volume to ensure your recipe doesn't fall on its face. This scale is small, inexpensive and fits the bill. There are lots of very fancy kitchen scales out now that calculate nutritional value and calories and blah blah blah... who actually uses that consistently?
Harry Potter7Emsa Perfect Beaker Measuring Beaker

Harry Potter7KitchenAid Stainless Steel Utility Tongs
Buy new: $9.99
So useful all over the kitchen. I use them for grilling, pan frying, deep frying, retrieving stuff that's slid on the rack or fallen to the bottom a hot oven and countless other duties. I personally own 2 of these, so I often use one when dealing with raw meat and the other once the meat is cooked.
Harry Potter7Oxo Good Grips Medium Cookie Scoop

Great little tool for making cookies, meatballs, scooping ice cream and other things. So much easier on your hand muscles!
 Harry Potter7Deni MT48 48 Blade Meat Tenderizer

Don't burn your roasts, turkeys, chickens and other assorted oven goodies. Alarm sounds after a set temperature is reached or after a certain amount of time has passed. Also good for monitoring brines to ensure they don't reach the "danger zone."
Harry Potter7Farberware Millennium Soft Touch 12 Piece Cookware Set
Buy new: $114.99
I love this set of pots and pans. Heavy and perfectly weighted, with lids that fit great. They look gorgeous and clean up easily. Goes into the oven too! I had considered fancy anodized, nonstick... meh! This is cheaper, yet amazingly good.
Harry Potter7Farberware Millennium Soft Touch Stainless-Steel 12-Inch Nonstick Skillet
Buy new: $50.88
Though you can make do with cast iron, I like having nonstick from time to time. I use mine mainly on weekend mornings for frying up eggs for breakfast or for other foods that are REALLY sticky. Lid from the above set fit this pan perfectly.
Harry Potter7Farberware Millennium Soft Touch Stainless Steel 8-Inch Nonstick Skillet
Buy new: $19.99
Like its bigger 12" brother above, still going strong after many a scrambled egg and seared fish fillet and the subsequent trips through the dishwasher. Best nonstick pans I've ever seen. Lid from the set 2 items up fit this pan too.
Harry Potter7Zyliss Palm-Held Pizza Slicer, Red
Buy new: $7.99
Not just for slicing pizza! Also great for chopping herbs, slicing doughs, candies, confections, baked goodies, pastas and other stuff. Easier to clean than regular pizza cutters too!

Harry Potter7Proctor Silex K2070H 1-Quart Automatic Electric Kettle, White
Buy new: $14.98
Saves soooo much time. Great for making coffee, tea & oatmeal and anything else you need hot water for. It's been a month and I've gone through 8 lbs. of coffee and all my teabags because I actually drink it daily now! Microwave? Messy boilover. Stove? Takes forever and hard to pour out of a pot. Kettle? Crazy expensive! And it just sits there taking up room the rest of the time!
